No matter which production method has been used, after creating a thread, checking the dimensional accuracy is a very important aspect for the quality of the result. This also applies to thread repair or thread reinforcement with V-COIL Wired Thread Inserts. Since also in this case there is often the requirement to check the cut holding threads for the required gauge accuracy before installing the thread inserts
As the holding threads cut with V-COIL STI taps are specially dimensioned for the thread inserts, thread plug gauges for standard threads cannot be used for this purpose. Instead special STI Precision Thread Plug Gauges have to be used (STI, by the way, stands for Screw Thread Insert and simply means wired thread insert). Once the thread insert has been installed, the gauge accuracy of the internal thread that has been obtained can be checked by using a thread plug gauge for standard threads.
